On April 27th I turn forty. I had to release my sadness in a poem. Enjoy!

Alicia's View on Turning Forty

My back hurts
My knees crackle
My skin is thinning
My thinking is less radical

I can’t wear contacts
Doctor said my eyes are too dry
Nearly failed a driving test
Because when asked if I need glasses, I lie

My eyes are more droopy
And so are a few other things
They now hang like socks of sand
No more sexy bras, now I shop for slings

My belly isn’t the same either
It used to have sexy ripples
Now I can stretch it one mile
Because when giving birth, I do it in triples

Is that another stink’n vein?
Why is my body so cruel?
I guess it could be worse
At least I don’t drool

I don’t need handicap parking
I don’t wear diapers yet
I don’t need bifocals
And falling is not a threat

I guess I am doing okay because…
I can stretch my back
I can strengthen my knees
I can buy sexy glasses
I can shop for push up bras
I can wear Spanx and
I can tan my skin

Being forty is not so bad
There are a lot of things I can cover- up
Just shoot that camera from above
And never go in for a close-up.

THAT was so stinky funny! So true, so true. You have to stand up. I love it. I love you, girl!

Alicia, you made me laugh because I remembered when I turned forty and I thought it was the end of everything! But I did something daring then. I learned to ski down difficult mountain slopes. The trick is to challenge yourself at 40 with something you never tried before. Then you can look back on it, like me, at age 62 and have a good memory. LOL!
